Sauna buckets and ladles
What are the sauna buckets and ladles used for?
The purpose of the sauna buckets and ladles is to hold clean water used to pour over the scorching sauna rocks to create steam (or löyly as it is known in Finland).
This steam turns a dry sauna into a steam sauna; it will produce a sudden sense of heat and add humidity to the air inside the sauna. In a traditional Finnish sauna, you can have buckets full of hot and cold water inside all kinds of a sauna used to create the steam or hold the vitha (commonly known as sauna birch).
Traditionally the saunas didn’t have running water nearby, so they used buckets and tubs to keep it. Most sauna buckets hold about 4 liters of water (1 Gallon Capacity) with an approximate size of 9″W x 5″D x 1.
Some beginner sauna bathers also used the sauna bucket to pour freshwater onto themselves for an immediate cool-off.
You can also enhance your sauna experience by adding a few drops of your preferred essential oil to the water and enjoying the aromatherapy benefits. That is why sauna buckets and ladles are must-have accessories for the sauna.
